An Open Letter on Veterans Day: Remembering Our Why

At Financialize, Veterans Day isn’t just a holiday—it’s a reminder to serve those who’ve already served us. This year, our team reflects on the true meaning of sacrifice and encourages everyone to thank a veteran and give back in a tangible way.

For nearly 20 years, I’ve made it a priority at every company I’ve led to allow our team to take the day off, shorten their hours, or simply spend more time with their families on Veterans Day. My reason for doing this might not be what you expect. But before I explain my why, let me share a story from this morning.

At 4:45 a.m., I woke my daughter so we could do our part. We headed downtown to serve at KARM (Knoxville Area Rescue Ministries) to help feed the homeless. For just over two hours, we interacted with more than 400 men and women, and the number of veterans we met was staggering. Many still carry the quiet weight of their sacrifice long after their service has ended.

That experience reminded me why this day matters so deeply. Veterans Day isn’t about barbecues or long weekends. For my family, it’s about service, honoring those who gave up their comfort so we could live with freedom, opportunity, and safety.

Today, I’d like to invite you, our team, our clients, and everyone who reads this, to take a moment to express your gratitude to a veteran. If you’re able, bring a warm meal or a kind word to someone who once wore the uniform.

Let’s show these men and women that their country still sees them, honors them, and deeply appreciates what they’ve given.

Because freedom isn’t free, and gratitude should never be forgotten.
